Diva Challenge #233: Zenith

Laura Harms is back from her busy summer activities, and has chosen the tangle "Zenith" for her weekly challenge at her site,  IAmTheDiva Zenith is one of the newest official tangles, created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, and was released to the newest CZTs at the last certification seminars.

The step outs for Zenith can be found HERE in the latest Zentangle newsletter.

This is a tangle that I hadn't tried previously, so it was a good learning activity for me. I'm posting two versions of the same tile. With the first version, I thought it might be done ....

..... but after some thought I decided to be bold and add the black background. I think it helps make it "pop" more dramatically.

I would *love* to hear your feedback, comments, etc! Thanks for visiting!

  2. Agreed with the background! It always scares me to darken a large area like that. Glad it turned out well for you!

    1. Hi, Carrie~ I did have to take a bit of a deep breath before I added the dramatic background. I've seen some great pieces with dark backgrounds, and love them! It's fun to experiment!

  5. Yes, I like the black background too and I would have been a little nervous about doing it. Nowadays, I tend to scan the version before adding the black as a sort of insurance. Both versions are good but the black certainly adds drama.

  6. I agree. I've decided almost all my favorite Zentangle works have a lot of black background. So I've decided to start adding more and more. I use the Prismacolor Premier brush tip markers for big areas because you can make a very wide line. At the same time, its point is so tiny it gets into small spaces very easily. Great job on a challenging pattern.

  11. Beautiful tile, and I agree with you the black background gives a finishing touch. The tile becomes more in balance (black and white). And I love all the movement in your tile.
